The founder of HYER GOODS, Dana Cohen, spent more than a decade working in the fashion industry before she realized she was more passionate about waste. She wanted to create a better way to design through HYER GOODS, one with a smaller footprint on the earth.
HYER GOODS upcycles from Better Leather, the off-cuts or deadstock from the production and manufacturing process that would normally go to waste. By using materials that are already available they not only save these materials from landfills but they save energy using these existing materials.
They choose to use leather because it is durable and lasts. They chose to use an organic material that once it reaches the end of its life will biodegrade in a reasonable time.
Take a look at HYER GOODS bags and wallets below.
HYER GOODS: Recycled Materials
HYER GOODS upcycles from Better Leather, the off-cuts or deadstock from the production and manufacturing process that would normally go to waste. As a natural product leather can have many defects and undesirable marks. This results in 12 to 15% of waste during the manufacturing process. HYER GOODS uses these scraps to create their products.
Closing the Loop
HYER GOODS aims to minimize waste and support a circular economy by keeping materials in circulation as long as possible. To facilitate this they have set up a program where customers can resell their preloved handbags and wallets. It’s called HYER UP.
