About the Founder

Sarah Winkler - Founder

Hi and welcome,

I’m Sarah, the founder of Everyday Recycler.

I started Everyday Recycler to create a place for people to easily find all the great recycled products available. I wanted to do this because I really believe it is one of the ways we can make recycling a real success story.

That wasn’t all, though. I also wanted to be a more conscious consumer and a better recycler myself.

I was always very passionate about recycling. So much so I used to drive my mum and dad mad, telling them what goes in which bin.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, life got busy, and other priorities took over. It’s not that I stopped caring about recycling or the environment; I just went into automatic mode. As long as I was filling my recycling bin, I felt I was doing a good thing. Truth is I was probably one of the worst wishcyclers.

About five years ago, the world of recycling was turned upside down. China was no longer accepting our recycling, and there was a good deal of negative media on the subject. I started to take more interest and read everything I could. I researched recycling and recycled products, pollution, and ocean plastic issues. The more I read, the more motivated and passionate I became.

Having rekindled my passion for recycling I used my experience in project management and business analytics along with my further studies in the circular economy to create Everyday Recycler. Through my website I’m committed to empowering people worldwide to recycle more effectively—it’s a skill we can all master.

One of my proudest accomplishments is authoring “Recycling for Dummies,” published by John Wiley and Associates in April 2023.

What's an Everyday Recycler?

An everyday recycler is someone for whom recycling is just part of their everyday life. It doesn’t mean they know how to recycle everything. It means they believe in making a difference through recycling and are focused on achieving that goal.

They make an effort to include recycling in their everyday routine. Whether it’s simply checking the rules of what goes in for their local area or going above and beyond to recycle a particular type of material or maybe even considering whether an item is recyclable when they make a purchase.

Although few of us recycle perfectly every day, we can all continue to improve our efforts and make a bigger difference.

In The Media

The science behind climate change can be overwhelming and complex. When it comes to its impact on the future, much is still undetermined. So how can you take control and do your part to help slow the impact of climate change? While a lot of factors are out of our control, simple changes at home can decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reduce your carbon footprint. Whether it’s insulating your home, planting a garden, composting food scraps, or recycling your plastics, every effort counts. Or, if you live in a hot climate that receives a considerable amount of sunlight – like El Paso, TX or Oahu, HI –  switching to solar power may be the right option for you.

Recycling household items can lead to a cleaner and greener environment. Recycling and reusing items can also help produce less trash that goes into landfills, ultimately harming our soil, air, and water.

Read these DIY upcycling tips and ideas from our experts and keep them close at hand. This way, you and your family stay busy and the planet cleaner.
