P.L.A.Y. – Pet Lifestyle and You: Dog Beds & Toys

They make quality dog beds and toys using recycled stuffing, not only designing for your pet but for the planet too.

The founders of P.L.A.Y, Will & Deb, wanted to provide their own little ball of fur, Momo, the best quality bed they could find. Only they couldn’t find anything good enough, so they decided to create their own. Finding quality manufacturers, using planet-friendly materials, all while keeping prices reasonable, was just pet’s play to them.

They initially involved local San Francisco artist David Collins to ensure their dog beds were stylish and unique. They’ve expanded that to include artists in New York and Los Angeles now. In fact, for many designs, you can check out a short bio of the artist on the product pages.

And what about the testing of the design you say? Their dog Momo and other well-loved animals were heavily involved all along the way. The result! Momo sleeps very contentedly and our pets get to enjoy the benefits too.

Recycled Materials

  • P.L.A.Y. use an Eco-friendly filler, called PlanetFill®, which is made from 100% post-consumer certified-safe recycled plastic bottles. To date, P.L.A.Y. has saved over a million bottles from going into the landfill.
  • They also use eco-friendly packaging. An example is their product tags where they only use materials certified-safe by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Certifications

  • In 2016 P.L.A.Y. became a Certified B Corporation. Joining the many like-minded organizations who seek to be better in every way, meeting the highest standards of performance, transparency, and accountability.
  • In 2015, P.L.A.Y. was upgraded to Gold Certified by Green America’s Green Business Certification program. They recognized P.L.A.Y. as a leader in their industry.

Other Kudos

  • P.L.A.Y. provide you with care instructions to make sure that your products last as long as possible.
  • You can get new covers that you can restuff with the old filler or even old clothes to reuse and reduce waste.
  • Supporting the community comes naturally for P.L.A.Y. with programs like:
    • Their Warm Bellies Initiative with the Petfinder Foundation provides homeless pets with a warm mat to sleep on.
    • Supporting the International Fund for Animal Welfare by contributing 2% of all sales from their Under the Sea and Bugging Out toy collections.
    • Donating 10% of all sales from their Mustache Bed to help ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer
    • Awarding their Scholars Helping Collars scholarship annually with the goal of raising awareness and promoting animal protection among our youth.
  • They have won lots of product design awards over the last 10 years, too many to list here.

Have We Tried It?

Unfortunately, we lost our puppy recently. Yes, I still called her that despite her 18 years of age, just recently, so we don’t have the need for any toys or dog beds. When we do make the decision to get another companion, we will definitely be trying these out. I particularly like the outdoor chill bed that rolls up for taking on day trips. Please let us know if you have tried any of the P.L.A.Y. products. We would love to share your feedback with others.
