Solgaard’s mission is to help cut ocean plastic in half by 2025. They have partnered with The Plastic Bank to help tackle ocean pollution. Plastic Bank pulls plastic from the ocean and upcycles it into useful products. Creating local jobs for the teams in the Phillippines and reducing plastic pollution.

What can you do to help? Well, you can “Save the oceans, one bag at a time!”

Solgaard design their luggage with sustainability in mind. However, their designs have some other pretty cool features. They have solar panels on their backpacks and USB charging ports in their luggage.

Their carry-on closet even comes with its own built-in shelves. They have thought of everything with anti-theft locks, TSA-approved locks, and secret compartments for your passports and cards.

Recycled Material

Solgaard’s products use a fabric called Shore-Tex. This textile fabric is made entirely from ocean-bound plastic.

They collect the plastic pollution from the environment and sort it and clean it. Then the plastic is broken down into pellets. These pellets are used to make the polyester yarn which is then woven into the Shore-Tex fabric.

Other Kudos

  • Just in case you missed it they will pull 5 lbs of plastic from the ocean for every purchase you make.
  • They’re also removing all single-use plastics from all of their products and shipping processes.
  • They were selected as a finalist in Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas 2020.
