Our Favourite Brands Making Recycled Dog Products

A great way for you and your pooch to help the planet is to buy recycled toys or other recycled products. Here are some great recycled dog products like toys, collars, leads, and beds. They are all made with recycled materials.

If you want to find more ways to reduce your pet’s impact, head over to our post smart dogs will love it when you reduce their impact!

Recycled Dog Toys

P.L.A.Y.

P.L.A.Y. stands for Pet Lifestyle and You. They make quality dog beds and pet toys using recycled plastic. Great recycled dog products for your pet and the planet. They have some amusing toys like the International Taco or the Mutt Hatter! The Globetrotter Headphones are pretty cute too. My favorite, though, is the Barkys Bite toy for Halloween.

P.L.A.Y. uses an Eco-friendly filler, called PlanetFill®, made from 100% post-consumer certified-safe recycled plastic bottles. To date, P.L.A.Y. has saved over a million bottles from going into the landfill.

Read our Brand summary if want to find out more about P.L.A.Y.

Here are a few of our favorite toys filled with recycled plastic fill.

West Paw

West Paw is one of my favorites because not only do they have lots of products made from recycled plastic, but they also have a recycling program. You can send back your old toys, and they will make them into new ones. This is only available in the USA at this stage but hopefully will expand into other locations.

Of our two dogs, one was completely obsessed with playing frisbee. I think it was the border collie in her. I think she would have loved the West Paw Zisc Flying Disc. Back when she was young, it was difficult to find a good strong frisbee that would not damage her mouth. There are certainly a lot more options these days. In addition to being gentle on your dog’s mouth, this frisbee is made from Zogoflex.

Zogoflex® is a proprietary plastic blend developed by West Paw. The blend incorporates offcuts and toys that didn’t meet quality with the old used Zogoflex toys that you send back.

Here are a few great examples of their toys.

Recycled Dog Leads and Collars

Anipal

Most pet leads or collars are made from plastic. The great news is that your next leash can give a second life to ocean plastics or other recycled materials.

Anipal, founded by RSPCA Veterinarian Steph Stubbe, has a lovely range of dog collars and leashes inspired by the ocean. Made from recycled plastic bottles, they encourage people to support recycled and sustainable options on behalf of their pets. Each product celebrates a different aspect of our marine ecosystem.

Anipal is also leading the way on sustainability in veterinary clinics and had the honor of speaking at the United Nations SEA of Solutions and Plasticity conference recently. Anipal posts its products internationally, and you can check out its products here.

Flowfold

With sustainability as one of their core values, Flowfold makes dog leashes from scraps of Sterling rope. For those who might not know, Sterling makes life-safety rope and cord. Any rope that does not meet their quality standards is sent on to Flowfold. Giving the rope a second chance rather than tossing it in the waste.

These ropes are great for dog leashes and come with a lifetime warranty.

Here are some great examples.

Unfortunately, most types of rope are generally not accepted in your curbside recycling program. If you are looking to recycle your old climbing rope, Sterling will even take that off your hands. Another option is Millet, who has recycled more than 4 metric tons of textiles since 2014.

Maybe one day, someone will set up a recycling program for our old dog leads and collars so they can be made into something new too.

Recycled Dog Beds

Molly Mutt

What a great idea, recycling your old clothing to fill your dogs bed. Saving your old clothes ends up in a landfill. Molly Mutt sells you the covers for you to do just that. Once you get them, you can fill them with whatever old textiles you have, such as old bedding, clothing, old dog toys, or old kid’s clothing. If any of the clothing is in really good condition, we encourage you to donate them first. Learn how to recycle your clothing in our article Clothes Recycling: How to Recycle Clothes Sustainably.

The part I love the most is that when you need to wash the bed, you just pull the stuffing out and wash it on a normal wash cycle. No more struggling to get that huge foam or stuffed padding into the washing machine. You can dry your old clothes and put them back in after.

Here are a couple of examples.

P.L.A.Y.

The name P.L.A.Y. stands for Pet Lifestyle and You. They make quality dog beds and toys using recycled stuffing —products designed for your pet and the planet.

P.L.A.Y. uses the same Eco-friendly filler, PlanetFill®, to fill their beds. It’s made from 100% post-consumer certified safe recycled plastic bottles.

They have some pretty cool bed designs. They use local artists to design the fabric for their dog beds, so they look pretty good. You can also get replacement covers when yours has worn out so you can reuse the filling again and again.

Here are our favorites. I particularly like the Outdoor Chill Pad as it can be rolled up and carried when you are out and about.

Hope your pooch gets spoilt with recycled dog products!
