The inspiration came to the founders of Volcom on a snowboarding trip. It was during a time when snowboarding and skateboarding were still looked down upon by the general population. They started in their bedroom with a small amount of money and very little knowledge of the clothing industry.
That was back in 1991, and since then, Volcom has spread across the world.

Volcom uses recycled polyester (Repreve) and nylon (Econyl) along with some recycled and organic cotton.
