OVERVIEW OF RECYCLING IN CURBSIDE BINS
We have come to the end of our Conquering Curbside Recycling Challenge but not the end of our recycling journey.
Below is a recap of the most important tips from these ten lessons.
- There are many steps to recycling after your bin is picked up.
- Recycling success depends on low contamination and access to end markets.
- Always check with your local authority.
- Finding your local recycling rules and getting familiar helps you know ahead of time what you can and can’t put in your curbside recycling bin.
- Many recycling labels don’t help determine if an item can be recycled or not. But keep an eye out for the advanced recycling labels in your local supermarket.
- Stick to putting mostly packaging in your curbside bin unless your local authority requests otherwise. That will help keep contamination low.
- Don’t be afraid to leave something out if you are concerned it cannot be recycled.
- Keep food and liquids out, and rinse your recyclables.
